More Melbourne buys

I love this Japanese sewing book. It was worth it just for the pictures. I will try to make something out of it though, such lovely blouses and dresses. Hopefully I will be able to work out the pattern and instructions, otherwise I'll be searching for assistance in blogland.
I had planned to buy a copy of mixtape when I was in Melbourne, but the latest was a kids special (not that relevant for me) so I got this older one. Love it!
And last but not least (maybe the least photogenic I guess) some facing and wadding from Nicole Mallalieu Design. Hoping to use it on a sewing kit roll or makeup roll or a bag of some description.
It is a lovely wet day today so a good one for rearranging and tidying rooms and assessing status of works in progress. Went out the Spotlight at Queanbeyan yesterday for the first time. We only have Lincraft in Canberra and it doesn't have a huge dress fabric selection. I bought some lovely blue rose floral fabric for a skirt - to become WiP #?

Melbourne shopping

I am still doing show and tell from my trip to Melbourne for Sew it Together. I bought this top from The Cat's Meow, a little independent designer run shop that was in the arcade under Flinders St right outside our hotel. I love it and hope I can wear it like this in summer and maybe with a white long sleeve t-shirt under it in winter.

Looks like it is going to rain all weekend so a good excuse to get stuck into some sewing/creative projects.

Knitting something

This is my 'something' that I am knitting. I think it may become a dishcloth, although it may be too large? The bamboo knitting needles are lovely to use - so light and I love the green cotton.

I covered these buttons on the weekend in Melbourne using the kit we got from Jackobindi. I had a kit bought from Lincraft and had tried to cover buttons at a Brown Owls meet but couldn't get them to work. So I was very happy that this new kit works and I will have to buy some refills to make more buttons with the little scraps of fabric I have.

My giant daphne bush looks like it is going to flower soon - odd time. It smells divine when it does, I can't wait to be able to pick some for inside.

This arrived in the mail today. I can't really say it was thrifted as it came from an eBay seller. I like the 1960's feel and the bright orange. All washed and ready to go next to the other retro stuff.

Freebies from SIT sponsors

There is so much to post about from the weekend. I thought I'd start with the lovely freebies we got from the generous sponsors. Other posts to follow - stuff I bought and possible plans for making stuff. Things others made that I now covet. Other things I bought and saw while in Melbourne.

I copied most of this from apathetichousewife. I am sure many people will blog the same stuff. But it saved me searching for the sponsor links, thanks Cathy! I love Cathy's quilt with the black and white flowers.

Thea & Sami wire coat hanger cover kit. I sat at the same table as the lovely Thea and her knitting.
Sew it Together booklet and stash-bag.
Bamboo knitting needles from Craft Junk. These are lovely to use, am knitting something* with them.
Lark pink journal, looks like vintage wallpaper.
Customised Moleskin from Cass, so sweet.
Ricrac animal house softie pattern
Craft scissors, thread and 2 fabric sampler packs from Oz Material Girls - I also won a collection of spotty fabric from them in the giveaway! Thanks ladies!!
Retromummy handpieced hexagon sampler
and finally a covered button sampler pack from Jackobindi!
I love my birdie badge and place mats from Leah

So, it is now Tuesday and I had the day at home (asleep till 2pm). 'Aunt Flo visited' with accompanying pain and I have a cold. Yesterday at work I got some good news and so am feeling very pleased with myself this week and a little less guilty for spending on the weekend.

* Something meaning I don't know what yet - just knitting rows with help from Susan.

Sew it Together

Hello to all of the lovely and talented people I met at Sew it Together in Melbourne. What a great weekend, congratulations Sheridan! I will do a proper post with pics of goodies and all of the things I have been inspired to make when they are finished (cough, cough) as soon as I get a chance.

I hope those who travelled to Melbourne, like me, had (or have) a safe trip home and that you all have a great week.

Lucky we didn't have any internet stalkers among us.....

Fog

This was my back garden when I left my house on Sunday morning to head in to Canberra to see Mum and Dad. It wasn't very early either.

I stopped on the way to take more photos, I love fog.

Thinking about packing for Sew it Together but checking my Reader and Blogging instead!!

flea market finds

There is a little charity shop around the corner from my work. I have picked up some bargains from there as the ladies who work there hate charging more than a few dollars for anything! On Friday I found a small navy picture framed (good as new), two little dishes from Taiwan, two lovely aprons and 4 napkins. She ignored the prices marked on everything and charged $2, I offered $5 but she wouldn't take it.

The aprons are faded but lovely fabric and one has butterfly embellishments on the bottom. I love the fabric of the napkins, not sure if I'll use them as napkins or add them to the fabric stash.

Yesterday I found a lovely dish and retro picture at a place near my home that has great things but is usually quite dear.

Sorry about the bad photos, I have already washed the aprons and napkins and (ahem) they aren't ironed yet.

Thanks Sophie for running flea market finds!

Thrifty finds

A couple of bits from my thrifty shopping trips of yesterday and today. What a lovely day it was today, warm, sunny and nothing planned. Lots of washing, weeding and a stroll into town.

Hoping to get up early tomorrow to venture into Canberra for cat food, a visit to Bunnings and to see Mum and Dad.

Bad week begone!!

Yay, it is Friday! Which means the end of a pretty bad week for me all round. Including a $200 speeding ticket and a bump on my car both collected today. Great!

I did have a few bright spots though and managed to get a thrifty bargain today. I'll post pictures tomorrow - two aprons, a picture frame, two little dishes and 4 napkins for $2.

I am looking forward to hibernating this weekend and can't wait for Sew it Together in Melbourne next week.

Sunday morning sun

The pansy plant that popped up from nowhere, about to flower.
Vine, creeper thing that has emerged from the base of the old dunny (outside loo). Not sure if it is a groundcover or a climber.
Smudge having a drink from the pond and enjoying the sun.

My little herb collection.
And finally a coffee and browse through magazines before I am out the door.
